Potential Uses of Artisanal Gold Mine Tailings, with an Emphasis on the Role of Centrifugal Separation Technique

Few investigations have focused on the potential uses of artisanal gold (Au) mine tailings, despite fact that mining activity contributes to environmental issues such as greenhouse gas. Mineralogical characterizations tailings in Miyove (Baradega and Masogwe) Rwanda were investigated for utilization a source valuable gold, using centrifugal separation technique. Results X-ray diffraction analysis, energy dispersive spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, plasma–optical emission fluorescence showed samples significant amounts justify economical extraction opportunity. The grades ores ranges 37–152 2–7 g t−1, respectively. Quartz was major phase, with minor impurities two different types their respective tailings. beneficiation carried out separation, regarded an extension gravity range 535–1515 t−1 36–302 recoveries 21.8–47.3% 46.9–63.8%, results technique more efficient boosting recovery compared present panning approach employed at site, which sometimes recover low 10%. suggest mineralogical characterization allows development design suitable methods improving ore reprocessing.
